Simmons Music News
I think music in itself is healing. It's an explosive expression of humanity. It's something we are all touched by. No matter what culture we're from, everyone loves music. ~ Billy Joel ~ Everyone does love music! In my classes students will learn about all types of music. They might not "love" all of the music they hear in my class, but I will try to get them to experience many different styles of music, music from other cultures and music of different time periods. The sixth grade students will be spending their thirty days building the foundation of their musical knowledge. We will be spending time working on Rhythm and Melody knowledge. We will be learning about the bass clef and spending some time on Tempo and Dynamics. The 6th grade students will be playing recorders to reinforce this knowledge. The seventh grade students will be adding the "form" of our musical knowledge. They will be learning about musical form and instrumental timbres. Using this knowledge students will be writing several songs using the computer program "Super Duper Music Looper" and will have the opportunity to create their own personal album of songs. The 8th grade students will be adding the trimming to our musical knowledge by learning about harmony and style. Students will be reviewing all of the musical elements and will use this knowledge to compose an original composition which they will have the opportunity to publish on a CD. I am excited about what I have seen during the first session of classes and am looking forward to the rest of the year. Mr. Simmons RCMS Co-Ed-Y Take Top Honors See Ms. Nathanson and Mr.Padula to join Co-Ed-Y this year. The students' annual performance is overall excellence in all areas of the conference.
