That would be my friend Scotch Ian's dog, 'Shep', though it wasnt a German Shepherd, just a scraggy old mongrel. Ian was the most degenerate drug addict I ever met. His original addiction was to barbiturates, but when he was referred to the methadone clinic, the doctor didn't understand different drugs had different effects, so she put him on a methadone script, a mixture of amps and linctus, even though he'd never injected in his life. He soon picked it up though. He used to shoot the amps and give the linctus to Shep. I remember him robbing a pharmacy one night, and bringing the haul around to my friend Paul Massey's house. (This was the place where you could go wandering in the garbage in the back yard and pick up dihydrocodeine ampoules that had been thrown out as garbage.) Because Ian's drug of choice was barbiturates, he'd keep shooting Tuinal or Nembutal, and every time he passed out, the rest of us would raid his box like a plague of locusts, helping ourselves to the heroin, cocaine and diconal and pocketing a little for tomorrow, of course. It pays to think ahead. He'd reputedly done serious time for manslaughter, and used to go on and on about 'the list'. Everytime someone else offended him, there name went down on 'the list'. At some point, he planned to kill himself and his one true friend, Shep. But not before he'd killed everyone whose name was on 'the list' first. I wonder what happened to him? I heard he joined the Divine Light Mission, but I've no doubt it wouldn't have been long before he put the Guru Mahara Ji's name down on 'the list' as well....
