But in the late eighties >>there was something of a "genuine boot" resurgence, and for awhile they >could >>be had again for $10-20 apiece in NYC. Since then, I couldn't tell you... well, here are the FACTS about qualudes...... first i have had them many times when they were being produced, but an asshole pharmacist in florida that was president of a very large country wide chain of pharmacys wrote in a paper when being interviewed by reporters that "qualudes are a drug that should not have been invented and should not be on the market because anything that it can do other drugs can do without the euphoric feeling" and he went on to say as of now (back then) he will not buy them any more for stock in his chain of pharmacys ! well it seems this guy had controling interest in something like 1200 pharmacys and he was the major chain that basically kept the companys producing them, when he said theres no use for it and he wont buy anymore the companys started to see loss's so they pulled the drug and that was it. BUT! there is a drug that i have had that is 99.5 percent the same thing called "mendrex" its made in mexico and is legal there, they come in bubble pack singles and are usually in strips of 100, they are like 10 cents each in mexico and here they bring anywhere from 10 to 40 dollars a peice! qualudes were definatly the worlds best drug. you could pop a couple on an empty stomach with a little orange juice and get the best feeling tho you cant do anything while on them like drive or even attempt to concentrate, but the feeling was magnificent. i remember my aunt that used to be into them when i was 13 she sat at a table with a huge bottle as big as a 17" monitor and had thousands in there, she would be trying to count them for sale as she was fucked up on them and by the end of the night her and everyone at the table were on the floor sleeping and way out of it (thats when i borrowed my first ones) in any case mendrex is the drug that best emulates the feeling, i have also had many ludes that were fake and made with valium and other "pam" drugs but non of them even came close to the real thing and you never knew what was in them. well thats about it......someday im going to mexico ! ================================================================ From: dyer@spdcc.com (Steve Dyer) Subject: Re: Methaqualone-containing products? We used to buy sealed Bottles of #100 and #500 from a Girl who worked at a Pharmacuetical Wharehouse in 1971-74. In the begining we would pay $15-20 a 100,and they went for 50 cents a piece. Then they became popular and we watched the price go to $1.00 then $2.There was also 5 other Brands of Methaqualone. Sopor was Popular, then there was a 400mg.Capsule named "Parest" and Somnifact and Optimil. All Methaqualone but few Pharmacists even knew about the last three or two! Around this time was also the quote "Sexual Revolution" and that coupled with Quaaludes meant for some Fun times. They were as close to a Horny drug as I've seen. Back then you could call them in even. One of the Girls I grew up with worked at her Fathers practice and knew just what to say (before I ever wrote scripts) in 9th grade. Though most of the Ludes we bought were street "Diverted" Pharmacueticals by the case. Most likely organized crime given S.Fla.'s reputation with the Mob. Then came the Counterfiet ones almost as good in the begining but plain no Methaqualone in the end @ $5 a pill? Rorer the Pharmacuetical Giant sold the rights(And mounting lawsuits)to a smaller Company named Lemon? That was short lived as a Senator or Congresswoman went to the source in China for some precursor and it is ow and has been banned since what 1980? and the same for Doriden,it was banned Nationally in the states. Because of the Codeine routine with Doriden called Four doors or Doriden and AC(Robitussin with Codeine). In New York and Fla. you could sign for a 2 ounce bottle of Robitussin A/C,Turpenhydrate with Opium,Paragoric with Opium and in a Squeeze you could barely feel better! Oh my!..... As a student in Boston 'during the mid to late '70's, I can attest to the wonders of 'ludes. There seemed to always be a girl "off campus" with an inexhaustible supply. Two dollars per was the going rate. New users could have fun with 1 or 2 and get completely lost on 2 or 3. And yes they were one of the only substances that did not hinder romantic trysts, although I do remember falling down a lot. Hanging out at the RAT in Kenmore Sq. watching the Real Kids.......jeez, I sound like somebodies nostalgic grandfather. They seemed to just vanish around 1980 or so, but by then everyone was doing so much coke that no one noticed.
