From: graham_coleridge Newsgroups: alt.drugs.hard Subject: Re: PKs from Juarez, Mexico Date: Sat, 31 Oct 1998 17:48:18 GMT I learned in no uncertain terms that dogs do in fact sniff for Valium. I feel compelled to share an experience concerning prescriptions smuggling in Mexico. About a year ago I had a serious case of the rambling bug and purchased a ticket on Greyhound that allowed me to travel cross country for one low price. Was called SEE THE COUNTRY TICKET or something like that but anyhow, I took full advantage of it and stopped off in Nuevo Laredo for a border crossing. I was alone and within 100 feet of crossing the border at least three cab drivers had offered to take me to a Farmacia. One even said "Ive got your doctor right here" and pointed to his cab... Uncanny how finely tuned the cab drivers are at reading the gringos faces and ascertaing exactly what's an their mind... I was new to this but I new that I would be over charged and possibly ripped off totally if I jumped at the first offer at the border. So I slowly walked farther into town untill I thought that I was outside of the tourist district and waited for the next offer. It took about 2 seconds..."what you want man? Cheap Doctor? Doctor's by the border cost too much, I take you to doctor that charge $9.00 dollars for 270 valium. You want? Come on." Who was I to say no... The doctors office was indeed far away from the tourist section and his prices were very cheap. I was shown a "menu" of sorts and was quite surprised at the variety of scheduled drugs that were offered. No serious meds but a plethora of tranqs. and low grade pain pills. Neopercodan caught my attention right off but luckily I had been warned that these were nothing more than Darvon. I was also surprised to see Rohypnol offered, as this drug had been highly scapegoated and bastardized in the press recently. Ritalin was also on the list. I decided to play it conservative at first untill I tried out my first purchase. So I purchased a bottle of Valium and a bottle of Tylenol with Codeine. I think the name of it was Tylex. The cab driver insisted of course on taking me to an off the path pharmacy as well, no doubt to up the fare. But what the hell, I was getting a pretty good price on the meds. After buying the meds from a very quaint and clean pharmacy in the heart of Nuevo Laredo, I asked the driver to take me to a nearby hotel where I would not be over charged. He did and I was promptly overcharged. I expected this though. Once in my room I immediately popped 4 of the Tylex and waited to to see if anything happened...45 minutes later and nothing, absolutely nothing. So I took a few more... 45 minutes later nothing... I had been beat on the Tylex...time to try the Valium. I took 3 10mgs and waited...oh there we go...the valiums were indeed legit. The next morning I crossed the border with the copies of my prescriptions in hand ( I had been coached on the crossing procedures from the cab driver the previous day. The border gaurd barely even looked at me and sort of nodded his head for me to go through. I didn't even need to show the prescriptions. Once accross the border, I started to get a little paranoid. What if one of the Border gaurds or cab drivers had tipped off the Texas officials? I decided that it would not be a good idea for me to walk around NL with 270 Valium in my pocket, especially since I now knew that everyone that saw me walking around NL, was able to clock me right off for what I was after just like the cab drivers at the border were able to do. I mailed the Valium at the NL post office to my final destination in LA. Good thing I did. Later that afternoon, I caught the next bus for San Antonio,( one of my favorite towns in the country BTW, seriously underated I think, great, classic, old time bus station with all sorts of beautiful, and exciting individuals at all hours of the night and day too), on the way up there on the interstate, the guy next to me asked if I knew about the "checkpoint" up ahead. I had no idea of course but I think he even knew that he should probably warn me. We were the only two white guys on the bus and as soon as we stopped at the checkpoint the Texas police walked straight up to us and took our bags off the bus to let the dogs sniff them. When they found nothing, they then asked us to step off the bus so that the dogs could sniff us. I thought that they were looking for Pot or maybe Meth or Coke but it turned out that they were looking for Valium. The bus driver informed me of this after the search turned up nothing. I was so fucking glad I had ditched the bogus Tylex in Laredo and mailed the Valium off to California. I keep thinking that it's kind of strange that I have never heard or read anything in this newgroup about the checkpoint along the interstate from border towns to San Antonio. Does anyone have any other info on these checkpoints? Are they on every interstate running up from the border or just the one I was on? Hope this ramble helps someone out. Graham
