Ever seen opium? Tar contains all sorts of of leftovers from crude opium that
are removed when producing white number four heroin or brown number three
heroin base. It's clearly a heroin salt (not a base) as it dissolves readily
in water, and the best tar can be close in purity to number four (rare
though). But it's got much of the color and flavor of it's opium ancestor. Now
a good question is whether it contains (on average) much of the other active
components of opium, like codeine, papaverine, etc. I know that I never
experienced any of the nasty side effects that codeine is supposed to produce
IV (skinned it without problems though) when shooting tar. But then, maybe
that codeine stuff is a myth, I don't think I ever read\heard that anywhere
but in Burroughs. Does anyone have a PDR or Merck handy? _Can_ codeine be
safely mainlined?? (who would want to is another question...)

I watch it make him sick, AND it reeks of acetic smell, it has to be as
impure as you can get.  When I was using heroin, it was a brown powder,
not a black tar.  Asian brown heroin was common 10 years ago.

        Just a guess, they apply acetic anhydride directly to opium gum
(latex) and sell it.  That would explain the gum (latex) and the color as
well as the odor of acetic acid.  I don't recommend poisoning yourself
with black tar, unless you solvent extract it first, and maybe not even
then!  It's just poor quality drug, pure and simple................sq
