Yeah - I remember that new stuff that was around in great quantity the first year after the Shah fell. Probably a good way to get your bucks out during the last days. Read a great account of escapees on the last few flights out with pockets and suitcases packed with caviar - supposed to be better than gold for holding value and relatively legal-problem free. So I figure the Persian fit into diplomatic pouches easily and was used the same way. Anyway - one reason so many got strung-out was because of ignorance. I was introduced to it as "a brand new drug" and I loved it. Beat the heck out of snorting or smoking opium - different enough that I didn't snap that it was the same thing. No nausea, itchy nose, etc. Told my husband all about it when he got home. "New - hell, that's heroin!" he laughed. And laughed. But I can see that if he hadn't told me, I might have gotten a lot farther into it. Nobody who was selling it to middle class white people was using the "H" word. DN > >-scooter
