All it is,is an old blood-pressure Medicine called Catapres. A very strong one I might add. it had me all dizzy ,couldn't walk or use my hands right and was bedridden for two weeks.I had this weird odor in my nose or the air and I still had high blood pressure. It was just to much for ones body to go through. This was an in-patient detox at a private hospital like the ones you used to see alot of in commercials until some of the investigative TV shows found that some Dr.'s were getting kick backs from some of the Hospitals who charged $8000 a pop! They were even commiting kids with Behavioral problems. They were doing that when I was growing up even but it was the Psychiatric wards. If a girl especially, was doing alot of drugs or running away or not minding their parents in the late 60's,early 70's. I knew a few kids who were put in Loony Bins just because they were smoking pot or running away from an incestuous relationship with their Father. That crap was going on way before the Media spotlighted it.And then they came out with those miraculous long-term places with recovery rates of 90%?? And then it was the 28 day stay in a room at $300 a day??? Makes sense to me! Speaking of which i got an unsolicited website for IBODODO! Eboka has spoketh. He wants to help relieve me of my non existent $$. I experienced the most > hellish period of the Forty years I have been alive. damn, dude...this happened to me, too! they gave me too much clonidine at the Haight Ashbury Drug Detox once. what happened was that there were two people working the pharmacy that day and they were probably on drugs or something because they weren't paying attention! i got 2 patches prescribed to me while i already had one on that the Dr. gave me, PLUS they ALSO gave me clonidine pills and told me to take those. within 12 or so hours there was something terribly wrong with my vision: EVERYTHING was too bright for me, even a dark room! and sunlight felt highly fatal to my system! i could hardly even walk to the corner where i scored my dope (believe me, at this point i was not even THINKING of trying to go through with kicking) because i had to keep closing my eyes. finally my Junk Buddy went and copped since i looked REALLY fucked up and we didn't need a police car passing us by and seeing me all messed up like that. oh, and did i mention the ghastly pins-and-needles feeling all over my skin? this in addition to all the regular symptoms of withdrawal which were just chiming in there whenever i managed to quit paying attention to what the clonidine was doing to me. i have heard similar stories from other not-so-smart addicts who are of the variety who will gobble pills indiscriminately, thinking that if clonidine is given to alleviate withdrawal than that must mean that a bunch of them will make you forget about it altogether. well, don't do it! if you're gonna do clonidine at all (and i wouldn't because it really doesn't seem to help that much) do a very small dose of it. i did get my junk that day but even doing a whole quarter did not stop the Clonidine Hell Symptoms completely. those didn't end for another 24 hours. and boy, were the people at the Haight Ashbury detox sure sheepish when i described to them what had happened. they actually gave me a week of darvons and libriums just to shut me up about it! i must say i appreciated that! ==================================================================== From: (Peter McDermott) Subject: Re: clonodine patch for H wihdrawl? Date: 1997/10/21 Newsgroups: alt.drugs.hard I'm also aware of the literature on clonedine withdrawal, but most of the people I've spoken to who have had experience of its use in detox regimes were not impressed. However, I've posted before about my experience in detox (in fact, one of the places where one of the above clonedine studies was conducted) where they were doing trials on a clonedine-related drug, lofrexidine. As soon as I got in there, people started telling me that I should get onto the trial, because the lofrexidine was so much easier to do than a methadone detox. These were long-term users with serious habits (20 years/200mg methadone a day), some of whom had had experience of clonedine detoxes, and dismissed it is unhelpful. All of them swore that it was easier to detox using lofrexidene than anything else. Although I opted for the trial, to my conservative relief, I ended up on methadone. (It was supposedly double blind, but you knew what you were getting as soon as your dose hit.) Nevertheless, the people on lofrexidene weren't at all jealous of me. In fact, it was the other way around - they were sleeping while I was pacing the corridors every night.
