Regardless of age or cardiac risk factors for myocardial infarction, cocaine can cause coronary artery vasospasm and heart attack in any individual whether it is snorted, smoked, or run up IV. There have been documented cases of sudden death from as little as a small line done in any of the above modes. The body does not know tolerance to the cardiac effects and even the "seasoned" individual can have adverse sequelae at any time. It's a little like Russian Roulette in a way- you never know. I used to do it quite a bit before I realized that any risk like that for the sake of a few minutes fun is pretty stupid. There is something wrong with the picture of doing a chemical to make you feel good when you're aware that it could possibly kill you- even if the risk is minute. My brother died of "Acute Cocaine Toxicity" last July, '96 after he injected pure cocaine. I can only guess at how much he shot after examining the eight-ball bag I found afterwards but it was half empty approximately. I'd hate to think he was stupid enough to have shot 1.75 grams of pure coke but he may have and I'm convinced it was not a suicide. The medical examiner ruled that it was an accident on his death certificate. He probably shot 1 gram at a minimum of pure coke. He went into immediate cardiac arrest and it took the HOSPITAL 10 minutes after the fact to get his heart going. The paramedics couldn't get it going after rushing him into the hospital. He went brain dead after about five minutes. After they got his heart started it was pumping 130 beats a minute and his blood pressure was 30/30. He held this condition without life support for 28 hours when he flatlined and died at 3:21 AM right before my eyes. The hospital explained to me that before being brain dead, the coke had shut down all sympathetic (sp) brain activity in his which caused all of his bodily functions to cease. I barely understand it. They tell me that as soon as that dose of coke hit his brain he felt no pain until he died. They said he got a massive flash in his brain and then wham, cardiac arrest. He was 36 and had used needles for 20 years maybe. I hated his needle use and could never talk him out of it and I'd have to leave the room when he's shoot, it was sickening to me. My brother told me that the addiction was not to the drug (coke, speed or heroin), but rather to the rush of shooting it. You know you're in trouble when you start getting short of breath, your chest starts shaking in a rhythm from deep inside and your face looks like you're having a seizure. As I once read here on this newsgroup: you can always do one more line but you can't do one less. I never moralize, but, cocaine will vaporlock your pump friend, and it's not pretty. Your body will test positive for hydrocarbons because the coke was probably manufactured with well-overused low octane gasoline. You know the line right? Be careful. (during my hard-drug 'career' i managed to get myself at least three of them.) and although i've told this story here about what? four times already, i really think maybe you'd want to hear it. one time in '91 i was really into doing speedballs, or sometimes a shot of coke and then a shot of junk five minutes later. i happened to get some coke from a trick who happened to be a wholesaler, so (duh!) i forgot to figure in how pure the shit was going to be, measured myself a 'normal' dose of it, and shot it up. next thing i knew my head felt like it had disconnected itself from my neck. through all the rocket noise i noticed that *my legs and arms were thrashing around and I COULD NOT STOP THEM*. i could not think a thought long enough to make them stop. i started making little vr-r-r-r-r-r noises. it was...terrifying! scarier than any drug experience i ever had...even that fugue i had on too many Xanax after being awake on speed for three days wasn't as scary as this was. if i had been alone i probably would have died or something, but my junk buddy was there and shot me up with a bunch of heroin and crumbled about 4 Xanax up and took his fingers and pushed them into my mouth and made me drink water (most of it ended up all over the front of me). i gather he'd seen this sort of thing happen before. he was from New Orleans and there's a lot of pure cocaine down there. i can't help but think something inside me must have collapsed somehow when i did that shot. shit, i was a hairsbreadth from cardiac failure, i am positive of that. the thing is, with white powders you never know how much you're getting or how good it is, or WHAT it is to begin with. shooting coke is not really worth this risk, in my humblest of opinions. naturally, this was the last time i ever had anything to do with that drug. coke in general gives me the crawlies just thinking about it. it's too ugly a death for me to contemplate. i don't want to die being that awake. and i also sort of value the control of my limbs... --
