It is not true. Richard Pryor was on a four-day freebase binge. He was using Bacardi 151 rum to light his torch. He spilled rum on his polyester shirt, and accidentally set it on fire. Extinguish all cigarettes. o Weigh 1 gram of cocaine hydrochloride and pulverize. o Using funnel to prevent spillage, pour cocaine into clean test tube containing 1-1 1/2" clean, room-tempature water, prefereably distilled. o Cap tube and shake for approx 1 minute or until dissolved. (residue after 2 minutes is "cut") o Using glass eyedropper add 4-5 drops ammonium hyroxide. Swirl to mix. Dense white cloudy precipitate will form immediately. o Using funnel or clean, dry eyedropped, add 1/2 to 3/4" ethly ether (anhydrous). Cap tube securely and shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes. o Place test tube upright. Allow liquids to settle for 1-2 minutes. Seperation will occur. o When bubbling reation stopes, uncap tube. Using clean, dry eyedropper or pipette, draw off most of top liquid and transfer to clean watch glass or evaporating dish. Set aside. Ether will evaporate within 5 minutes, leaving freebase. When dry, use razor blade to scrape off plate. Smoke and enjoy. (be sure to save the liquid remaining in the test tube.) -=In More Detail=- -= SteP 1 =- Make sure your working area if from all flame. The ether is highly flammable and it's best if you keep your area well-ventilated, although you must be careful that none of your neighbours smell the ether, it carries a long distance. -= SteP 2 =- Take one grame of cocaine hydrochloride, break up and remove any rocks, so that it will dissove readily, saving time. Note: Always weigh out the amount of cocaine hydrochloride you are using so you can adjust the formula accordingly. -= SteP 2 =- Place the cocaine hydrochloride and about 1" of water in the test tube, cap the tube. Good coke will desolve rapidly leaving no residue. But if there is anything left after a few minutes don't worry this is just the cut - this will be seperated in the next few steps. Next add the alkali, in this case ammonium hydroxide (NH4OH). If your using labority grade it will be quite strong - about 27% BE SURE NOT TO breath the vapours and don't get any on your skin. Use a GLASS eyedropper to dispense it. With undiluted 27% solution start with 4-5 drops per gram. After you have added it an immediate reaction will occur turning the solution white; cap the tube and swirl to mix it. If the solution remains clear at the bottom after swirling, add another 1-2 drops ammonium hydroxide -no more- cap, and swirl again until the entire solution is cloudy. This is the most critical part of the process, the adding of the alkali. Care must be taken not to over-alkalify the solution by adding too much ammonium hydroxide. If you add too much this will result in a metalic taste when the freebase is smoked. It may also make you sick! -= SteP 3 =- Next using a clean dry funnel or eyedropper, put into your test tube about 0.50 0.75" of ether, if you are using the ethyl anhydrous variety. Cap the tube tightly and shake well for a minute or two. The freebase is readily dissollved into the ether it is now not water soluble. Let the tube suttel for a while, until there is no reaction visible, then uncap the tube slowly. -= SteP 4 =- Using the eyedropper (always keep them seperate one for ether one for alkali) draw off most of the ether, which will be the top liquid in the tube, transfer it into a clean, dry watch glass or evaporating dish. Save the remaining liquid in the test tube. After the ether evaporates your freebase will be left. -= SteP 5 =- Using a razor blade scrape it off the dish. It is now ready to use! Ethyl ether will evaporate in about 5 minutes, more rapidly than petrol ether. -= SteP 6 =- We are now ready to perform the second extraction on the liquid remaining in the test tube. To the remaining liquid carefully add 1 drop ammonium hydroxide and swirl. If the solution shows a strong reaction by turning desnse white, as it did the first time, add 1 more drop of ammoniym hydroxide, cap and mix well. Now repeat the extraction process with the ether. Usually all the freebase will be liberated after 2 or 3 extractions using ethly ether. Each time after you have pulled of your ether add one drop of ammonium hydroxide to the liquid left in the tube. As long as you see a cloudy reaction there's still some freebase in the solution, as add some more ether, shake well, pull off to an evaporating dish. When finally a drop of ammonuim hydroxide to the test tube causes no more reaction the process is complete and the solution is free form cocaine and may be discarded. If possible it is best to use a seperate evaporating dish for each extraction. This way you can see how much freebase is liberated with each extraction and with a little experience you can judge when you have all the freebase from the solution. -= Ammonium hydroxide =- If you are using labority grade is may be wise to dilute it 50% before using in order to reduce the risk of over-alkalifying your solution. If you are using household grade then is is nessecary to increase the amount by about 5 times over the lab grade I.E. 5 drops to 1. Note: Also besure to use only plain ammonium hydroxide without fragrances and additives. Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) commonly known a lye, may also be used as an effective alkali in this process. To make a suitable solution, add 100 grams sodium hydroxide crystals of sticks to 8 fluid ounces of water. When using sodium hydroxide follow the same instructions and be sure to avoid skin contact. -= Ether =- There are only two types of ether that can be used for making freebase. Ethyl Ether and Petrolium Ether, the later being the cheaper. If you are using pertrolium ehter you must make some changes to the process. This type of ether does not absorb the freebase from the solution as well as ethyl so the following must be done: Tripple the amount of ether added and I.E. put 1.50 - 2.00" Ether in the tube after adding the hydroxide to your solution. Shake for 4-5 minutes before pulling off the ether. As many as 5 extractions may be nessecary. The precipitate that will form will be quite different, chunks will form. Also when drying the freebase crystals will form differently, they will form into tree shaped structors. Note: These trees will only appear on a spotlessly clean evaporating dish. NOTE: On Removing Base From Dish The freebase may be so light as to simply fly off the dish, make sure you are aware of this be fore you try removing the base from the dish. -= Storage =- Base must be stored in an air-tight container and put in a freezer. If this is done none of the potency will be lost for a few weeks. -= Smoking Techniques =- The pipe should be glass (pyrex prefered) water pipe having 125-250ml capacity with a glass bowl. In the bowl place 3-8 extra-fine screens, stainless steet if possible. To vapourise the base in the pipe for best results a propane torch is best, these can be picked up at any hardware store. Heat underneath the bowl until you see the crystals melting, then start to draw on the pipe, not too hard or you'll suck the un vapouried base into the water in the pipe! Hold your breath as long as possible to get full effect. Not to waste any exhale into a balloon and re-inhale. NOTE: Allow the pipe to cool before adding more base of it will melt instantly!
