From: smallonion@my-deja Newsgroups: alt.drugs.hard Subject: the last word on Codeine Lintcus (UK) Date: Sat, 18 Sep 1999 20:25:24 GMT Due to the recent interest in obtaining codeine linctus in the UK, I am posting the followin sorta FAQ thingy, compiled after extensive research. Basically the deal is this: By my estimation, about 40- 60% of chemists (in London) sell codeine linctus. That's how I ask for it, "codeine linctus," no brand name or anything. They’re usually generic-type brands you’ve never heard of. Some chemists pour it for you into one of their own dispensing bottles. Regarding codeine linctus, there are 3 types of chemists in London: 1.) Those who absolutely refuse to sell it. Either they really don’t sell it, or they will lie and say they don’t. 2.) Those who will sell it with no problem, no questions asked 3.) Those who will sell it only after they interrogate you extensively. (It’s known to be a frequently abused medicine.) *It’s sold at the discretion of the pharmacist. I was told by one chemist, ‘we don’t sell it,’ when I had bought it there just the day before when there was a different pharmacist on duty! *If you live in London, I can give you the names and locations of chemists who sell it with no problem. (mostly in South London) *It's usually sold in 200ml bottles, with 15mg per 5ml of codeine(total 600mg per bottle.) There are no other ingredients except inert ingredients. *It's for dry, irritating, non-productive coughs. These are the keywords to use if you’re being asked what you need it for. I usually say, ‘I have this dry, tickly cough that’s keeping me awake at night. I mean, I’m ok now, but I got no sleep last night.’ If they ask how long I’ve had it, I say ‘a couple of days…I’m just getting over a cold..’ This ruse is only necessary for chemist type 3. *It is kept behind the counter in the chemist’s shop. A good trick is to ask, ‘Do you do a small bottle of codeine linctus?’ This is a good ploy because: a.) people who want to abuse it want as much as they possibly can get, not a ‘small’ amount, and b.) It’s usually only sold in only one size anyway *Do NOT accept Pholcodine as a substitute. They may try to palm this off on you by saying that it’s nearly the same. Don’t buy it. . This is the ‘non-narcotic’ alternative. Nor do you want Benylin with codeine. This has all sorts of other ingredients besides the codeine. * Look as respectable as possible when you go to buy it. *The other day, I went to this one chemist and, after asking all about my cough, he said that pholcodine would be better. Knowing that they *do* in fact sell it, I explained, ‘Oh, well, I rang my friend’s dad, who is a doctor, and that’s what he told me to get.’ The pharmacist gave me the codeine linctus. Be creative. ("Oh, I had it a couple of years ago when I had a cough and it worked really well") Usually, you don’t need to do all this., only for chemist type 3. Most places that do sell it will just give it to you, no questions asked. Good luck…I’d love to hear how you get on. []
