I am worried about a friend of mine,
who has been acting oddly distant and saddened in recent days. I
perform a twinned runic reading to determine what the problem might be.
When I toss the runes twice, the first roll is a sun rune and a joy rune,
and the second is a rainbow rune and a protection rune. Since there
are no blank runes, I know there is no modifying pattern. I check
my notes briefly and determine that this is not a charted four-rune combination.
With that ascertained, I create a mental table, like so, with the Domains
on diagonals and the Directions on diagonals...
| sun | protection |
| joy | rainbow |
...and examine all possible combinations.
| sun | protection | = | Honor |
| joy | rainbow | = | Hope |
| = | = | ||
| Love | Intervention |
From this combination, I would gain an outline of the situation surrounding my friend's odd melancholy-- something involving honor, hope, love, and intervention. Being fairly familiar with my friend, I would interpret this as saying that he was in love with someone-- and was prevented from pursuing the matter by an issue of honor, despite his hopes that she loved him. I would take Intervention as indicating that it would be safe for me to ask him about the matter, and, consequently, do so.
Be careful. Twinned rune readings
are designed to reveal complex situations-- but they have their limitations.
In order to convey as much of a situation as possible, the runestones may
be forced to "hedge" slightly-- if it is important to reveal Lust, Chaos,
and Betrayal, for example, the connotation of Magic might emerge unintentionally.
However, if your
runestones have not turned against you, a reading will never degenerate
into two true readings and two false. It may be that one connotation
is inappropriate, but two will never be-- otherwise, the runes would have
removed the second entirely, and simply repeated and emphasized the first
over again.
