The Cost
by Lord Tolwynn Verethundi

Two hundred hundred years ago
These lands were different vast
The elves in true dominion stood
In city, sky, an sea, an wood
And all thought 'twould ever last.

Seven noble houses rose
To outshine the brightest star
Through darkest pride an ambition's swell
They like a dying star soon fell
And well near as fast and far.

Nalfein gambled Vaalor's heir
War and discord to incite
Though the Black Wolves tried the prince to save
They were starved an slain within their cave
And soon others took their fight.

Fell Despana and the lich Dharthiir
Joined in unholy pact
With Tormtor's secrets soon revealed
Command of Unlife did they wield
And their legions full attacked.

Prideful Taki held at ShadowGuard
To turn back relentless death
The Sabrar held in firmest stay
And in half the span of that grim day
Less than twenty still drew breath.

The Faendryl then took late command
Against the endless unliving tide
With twisted magics, dark an bale
They pierced the iron of the veil...
And bound daemons to their side.

Their foes now lost to daemon's touch
The houses played their hand
With words as keen as razern knives
They banished those what saved their lives
To the waste of glass and sand.

And yet one hoped for reconcile
Two great houses 'neath one cause
And when Chesylcha was well cruel slain
The seas were boiled with Maelshyve's bane...
And Ashrim... no longer was.

The shining empire, now tarnished dull
Through Nalfein's beck an call
They sought the throne within the clasp
Of their horrid desperate clutching grasp
And lost not their own, but all.

So listen well, you gathered here
The dear lesson learnt by elves
Despite your treasure an your might
And the measure of the foes you fight...
In the end you face yourselves.
