Bardfest 5101, Day 1: Llorrin

Dremerie recites:

"And now... let's have another performer..."

Dremerie smiles slyly as she reaches behind Bhamma's ear and pulls forth the next slip of paper.
Dremerie exclaims, "It's covered in earwax!!"
Dremerie exclaims, "Ewwwwww!!"
Dremerie says, "He really needs to scrub behind those ears."
(Dremerie scrunches up her face as she undoes the paper, leaping back as a leaf of acantha falls out.)

(Oh that scary acantha, Dremerie!)

Dremerie recites:

"LLORRIN! I'd appreciate it if you wouldn't stuff your papers in other folks ears!"

You see Lord Llorrin Stormknight the Giantman Skald.
He appears to be in his 50's, has shoulder length, wavy red hair, green eyes, and tanned skin.
He has old battle scars on his right arm, old battle scars on his right leg, old battle scars on his right hand, and a scar across his neck.
He is wearing a thick modwir armband, a silver trimmed mithril alloy weapons harness engraved with an intricate blue mandolin, a silver-clasped ash mandolin case engraved with teardrops along the lid, a Maeramil crest, an invar friendship ring, some thigh-high silver laced boots, a midnight blue silk gem pouch, a laje rampant lion penannular brooch, an etched gold clan crest buckle, a teardrop shaped sapphire pendant, a vibrant blue spidersilk cloak, a translucent spidersilk backpack, a sparkling blue sapphire clasp, some soft grey thrak hide gloves, a silver targe-shaped kilt-pin, a mithril juggernaut pin, an engraved silver clef pin, an exquisite glaes lute pin, a glyph-trimmed spidersilk vest, a small Silvergate pin, a silvery blue jacket, some waist-tied spidersilk trousers, a veniom-bound rolaren tower shield, a crystal teardrop brooch, a crystal amulet, a silver tasseled scroll sack, a silver locksmith kit, a polished silver armband, a white opal inset mithril circlet, some veniom-studded leathers with a silver lute tooled on the left breast, and a gold ring.

Dremerie recites:

    "Now, get up here!"

(Llorrin slowly walks to the front of the crowd.)
Llorrin sits down.
Llorrin slings a silver-clasped ash mandolin case engraved with teardrops along the lid off from over his shoulder.
Llorrin fiddles with his mandolin case before lifting the latch and flipping the cover open.
Llorrin removes a silvery carved haon mandolin from in his mandolin case.
Llorrin closes his mandolin case and fiddles with the latch for a moment.
Llorrin slings a silver-clasped ash mandolin case engraved with teardrops along the lid over his shoulder.
Llorrin carefully checks the strings of his mandolin, plucking them lightly and adjusting the tension until the sound is perfectly pitched.
Llorrin recites:

"Ah got the idea for this song
From something that happened to me on the Dhu'Gullywack
     The gnomish airship"

Llorrin recites:

"We were exploring some tunnels on one of our stops
And come across a dead dwarf."

Llorrin begins playing a quiet song on his mandolin.
Llorrin recites:

"He had no grave...no stone...nothing to mark his passin' or what he had done.
Which Ah thought was sad indeed
So Ah decided then to write a song for him"

Llorrin recites:

"That song quickly changed in the writing
Ta mark the deeds o' all o' the unsung heroes o' tha lands."

Llorrin lazily bridges into another key, the melody of his song as gentle as a drowsy stream
Llorrin hangs his head.
(Llorrin hangs his head so low his face is hidden from view and sings in a low, soft voice barely heard above soft tones of his mandolin.)
Llorrin sings:

    "One Dwarf made a stand
And saved us all from harm
     Took life with his hand
       Constructs sound the alarm"

Llorrin slowly modulates through a series of chords, building a beautiful melody.
Llorrin sings:

    "Mah eyes saw his work
And what deeds he had done
     Death he did nae shirk
His task he did nae shun."

With a mournful spill of notes the descant falls back into the lower tones, winding about the main theme in a melancholy refrain.
(Llorrin slowly, almost regretfully, sings sofly.)
Llorrin sings:

    "He never asked for fame

     Ah never knew his name"

Executing a run of precise fingerwork, Llorrin increases the intensity of his song exponentially.
(Llorrin suddenly shifts into a higher, much more intense voice, never raising his head.)
Llorrin sings:

    "So this is his monument
       This song is his stone
Ah know what his life meant
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone"

Llorrin makes a dramatic change in the song's dynamics, sweeping from soft to loud in a sharp crescendo then back into the middle ranges.
Llorrin sings:

    "Their sacrifice was nae vain
       Their light through dark shone
     Saved so many from pain
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone"

The tempo of Llorrin's song slows slightly, taking its time to convey a message of gentleness and rest.
(Llorrin again sings in a soft, low voice which is barely heard above the precice, slow fingering of his mandolin.)
Llorrin sings:

    "One man made a stand
       Hunted a fethidmorhe
     Magic in the land
       Hurt the creature no more."

With careful concentration, Llorrin draws out a series of notes, allowing them to layer into a sweet harmony.
Llorrin sings:

    "He went down an' down
       Into tha creatures lair
     Knocked it to tha ground
Did what no one else dare."

Llorrin caresses the strings once, very gently, making his mandolin seem to sigh as the melody continues.
Llorrin sings:

    "He never asked for fame

     Can you remember his name?"

Llorrin makes a dramatic change in the song's dynamics, sweeping from soft to loud in a sharp crescendo then back into the middle ranges.
(Llorrin again sings out the chorus in a clear, high voice never raising his head from his mandolin.)
Llorrin sings:

    "So this is his monument
       This song is his stone
Ah know what his life meant
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone"

Llorrin bridges his song into a new key, taking it to new heights of intensity.
Llorrin sings:

    "Their sacrifice was nae vain
       Their light through dark shone
     Saved so many from pain
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone."

The tempo of Llorrin's song slows slightly, taking its time to convey a message of gentleness and rest.
(Llorrin again sings soft and low, barely heard above his instrument.)
Llorrin sings:

    "Invasion begun
       We fight into the night
     Waves after waves come
We drag or heal or fight."

With strong fingers, Llorrin increases the complexity of his chords, taking the song to new melodic heights.
Llorrin sings:

    "Many fell that day
       To save our blessed land
     Back into the fray
       We make our final stand"

Llorrin caresses the strings once, very gently, making his mandolin seem to sigh as the melody continues.
(Llorrin sings very slowly and low, his voice thick with emotion.)
Llorrin sings:

    "We never asked for fame

     Were too many to name"

(Llorrin sings the last chorus in clear, intense notes.  His face still unseen.)
Llorrin sings:

    "So this is our monument
       This song is our stone
Ah know what our lives meant
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone"

Llorrin bridges his song into a new key, taking it to new heights of intensity.
Llorrin sings:

    "Our sacrifice was nae vain
       Our light through dark shone
     Kept so many from pain
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone."

Llorrin sweeps the music upward in a swelling crescendo of vibrant harmony.
Llorrin gazes heavenward.
(Llorrin Suddenly looks up from his mandolin.  There is a very intense look in his eye softened by the tears forming there.  He almost crys out the the last verse in a high flurry of notes.)
Llorrin holds back his tears, his eyes glistening with pain.
Llorrin sings:

"As long as Heroes will hold on

Then hope is never really gone."

Llorrin sweeps the music upward in a swelling crescendo of vibrant harmony.
Llorrin sings:

    "So this is our monument
       This song is our stone
Ah know what our lives meant
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone"

With a complex series of chords Llorrin bridges into a new key, taking the theme to a new level of exaltation.
Llorrin sings:

    "Our sacrifice is nae vain
       Our light through dark shone
     Kept so many from pain
       Heroes o' flesh an' bone."

Llorrin caresses the strings once, very gently, making his mandolin seem to sigh as the melody continues.
(Llorrin slowly drops his voice from the almost wild cry of tones.)
Llorrin sings:

    "Heroes o' flesh an' bone."

Llorrin adds in a soft harmony, the muted strains complimenting the melody beautifully.
(Llorrin drops his voice to a whisper, but the intensity never leaves his eyes.)
Llorrin sings:

"The Heroes o' flesh an' bone."

Llorrin hangs his head.

Llorrin strums one final soft chord then allows his mandolin to fall silent.

(After a pause-- I assure you, I wasn't about to spoil the moment...!)

You say, "As a brief postscript to Llorrin's song... I stood beside him-- and beside some twenty other people-- when we found and buried the body of that dwarven hero."
You say, "One of my most treasured possessions is a scroll of his last words...."
Llorrin nods to you.
You say, "You and I may wish to tell the tale side by side, someday."
(Tanager gazes at Llorrin thoughtfully.)

You remove a vellum scroll from in your garnet-hued bag

It reads:
I don killt the last of 'em.  Oncet I seen what they'da planned for the giantfolk, I knowd I would stay 'til they were all dead or I's.  Shame that last construct cut me so deep.  I needs to run from it now, but I should be able t' wreck it afore I pass on.  I done well.  Not a bad place to rest my bones..

Ylena says, "If I die in anonymity.. I'm going to haunt lots of people."

(Tanager runs her fingers lightly over the outside of a vellum scroll before tucking it carefully away again.)
You put a vellum scroll in your garnet-hued bag.

Nofret says, "I would expect Ylena to haunt the boutique."
Ahmeuseng says, "You'll never do anythin' anonymously, Ylena."
Mirare says, "Ylena, I've never known you to be annonymous."
Haephestus says, "Yer sho closet be yer monument Ylena"
Larktrill says, "yer kidding, ye leave a shoe and we'll all know who it is"
Nofret says, "Well, the boutique or the slipper shop in Solhaven."
Ylena exclaims, "Oooh.. there's my idea.. Heroes of Gown and Hose!"

Danay says, "Ylena defended the boutique against the banaltra. She is quite the hero."
Ylena says, "I kept the Banaltra from eating our silks."
Ylena nods.
Nofret says, "Well, there is still one banaltra left, Ylena..."
Ylena says, "And he's not getting any silk, Nofret."
Nofret says, "I was hoping, Ylena, that you might be getting the banaltra instead."
Ylena gasps.
Ylena asks, "What would I want with a banaltra?"
Tiniviel says, "Dress it up."
Ylena says, "Well, wait a minute.. not everyone has a banaltra..."

Dremerie recites:

"We have one more performer tonight...
      and then some more doorprizes
      and then...

We'll announce the three folks from tonight
That will go on to the finals on
     Monday night!"

Nofret asks, "Don't you need some banaltra hide boots?"
Mystra nods to Nofret.
Mystra says, "Acourse she does."
Mystra chuckles.
Mystra says, "And a matchin' satchel"
Mystra nods to Nofret.

Dremerie recites:

    "Just a reminder
I'll be announcing the topic of the finals
On the boards and via emails to the finalists
     By midnight Friday.
     They then have all weekend
To turn that topic into a performance
     By Monday night."

Dremerie recites:

    "And now.. Another doorprize..."

Dorli says, "Forgive m'ignorance, but what's a banaltra? An don't tell me it's a tra with bourgeois sensibilities."
Jacinto exclaims, "A new coat of paint!"
Juspera says, "No no, it is a hideous dangerous insect thing."

Celtar asks, "Can I have a a dozen of the pretty ladies in this room for the eve if I win the door prize?"

You say, "I've never quite sorted that out myself... they were large, insectile, and lived under the city."

Mirare says, "I was thinking I could use a new door."

Celtar cocks his head at Dremerie.
You stare at Celtar.

Chutnee says, "As in insect."
Ylena says, "A fearsome nasty thing that would eat silk if it could."

(Tanager clings firmly to Tolwynn.)

Dremerie smiles as she tosses her hair over her face and stumbles blindly into the audience. Her hands stretch out and finally grab...

Brynnywynn asks, "Wha' 'bout us ugly ladies, Celtar?"

You say, "Ow."
You poke Dremerie in the ribs.

Juspera says, "They dug up out of the ground under our towns to kill us. I will tell you sometime."

Dremerie exclaims, "Xatier!"
Ylena exclaims, "Don't step on me!"

You see Lord Xatier Ma-jita the Dark Elf.
He appears to be in his 50's, has long, straight silver hair, violet eyes, and tanned skin.
He has a tattooed symbol of Lumnis on his forearm, and an open magical tome tattoo on his finger.
He is in good shape.
He is holding a glass of sweet berry wine in his right hand.
He is wearing a gold ring, a dreamstone inlaid silver circlet, a moonlight silver satchel, a majestic midnight blue greatcloak intricately embroidered with silver runes, a gold scroll cloak clasp, a multi-gemmed quintuple ring medallion, a crystal amulet, a black tome amulet, some mystic midnight blue robes, a silver mane wand harness, a rune-etched silver pin, a scroll-shaped Lumnis pin, a golden Lumnis symbol, a silver studded leather wrist-sheath, a braided silver bracelet, some silver and black leather gloves, an antiqued silver filigree ring, a silver moon-link belt, a silver etched scroll case, a midnight blue velvet gem pouch, a sleek silver mane pouch, some elegant spidersilk pants, a tiny latched silver cigar case, and a pair of soft grey suede boots.

Dremerie removes a funny critterstick from in her large sack.

Nofret says, "There ARE no ugly Elanthian ladies. Believe me."
Juspera asks, "Helga?"

Dremerie smiles at Xatier.
Xatier accepts Dremerie's funny critterstick.
Xatier says, "Just what i needed"

Brynnywynn says, "Na, even Helga's got beauty, if ya look right, Juspera.  O' course, mostly lookin' right involves tha bottom o' a ale glass."

Continue on to Seysko.
