Many different plants grown in the world of Elanthia, ranging from the innocent Blaeston blossom to the magnificent oak to the poisonous yet useful thanot shrub. This guide should prove useful not merely to herbalists but to gardeners, florists, chefs, rangers, and tourists.
For the purposes of this guide, most living things can be considered plants if they don't move, don't have blood, and aren't created with tools or with magic. This may not be botanically correct, but it will suffice for these purposes.
I welcome contributions to this guide--
Elanthia's very large, and there are many places I don't dare tread!
Please contact me with any plant
you feel should be added to the guide or with any information you can provide
that I haven't included. (Well, you might want to wait on that until
I've gotten some more work done myself, but I do appreciate any help people
feel like giving!) Be careful to include your Elanthian evidence--
without evidence of a creature's existence, I will be forced to accept
it as a legend. More information on what precisely consitutes evidence
may be found here.

Acacia tree
Appearance:
Evidence: A golden acacia floor may be purchased from Finiegan's Flooring
in River's Rest.
Other notes:
Acantha plant
Appearance:
Evidence: Acantha leaf is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: Acantha is noted for its herbal properties; when the leaves
are consumed, they restore a portion of blood to the person who eats them.
Acantha leaves also make a passable and nutritious salad, or an acceptable
tea, so long as the tea is sufficiently honey-laced. Acantha can
be found in climates ranging from near desert to moist ocean beaches.
Before the Ice Age passed, acantha was known as akbutege.
Aloeas tree
Appearance: A small tree. (The parchment in the gardener's shack
in Hearthstone)
Evidence: Aloeas stem is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: The herbalist's parchment in Hearthstone lists a tree
with the properties of aloeas-- the heliotrope tree-- but lists neither
aloeas nor arfandas (arfandas was the name of aloeas before the Ice Age
passed.) I have presumed that heliotrope is another name for aloeas
as well, perhaps referring to the tree's color, or perhaps aloeas tree
displays the ability to turn towards the movements of the sun (this is
known as heliotropism.) When consumed, the stems of the aloeas tree
have the property of staunching bleeding from the head or neck, both internal
and external, and of healing bruising of the brain. Aloeas grows
in colder, wet areas, such as along riverbanks.
Ambrominas bush
Appearance: Ambrominas bushes have oval leaves of a dark green hue.
(The parchment in the gardener's shack in Hearthstone)
Evidence: Ambrominas leaf is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When ambrominas leaf is consumed, it has the property
of healing the minor cuts, bruises, and scrapes a person may have sustained
in adventuring. It grows in grasslands and hilly areas. Before
the Ice Age passed, ambrominas was known as arnuminas.
Anenome (flower)
Appearance:
Evidence: Anenomes grow beside roses and blaeston blossoms beside the
sign to welcome people to Sylvarraend.

and spiced apple tarts may be purchased in the Tartifacts Bakery in Icemule
Trace.
Other notes:
Ash tree
Appearance: A tough, elastic hardwood. (Bin Saladin's catalogue)
Evidence: Before Bin Saladin's shop closed, ash wands, amulets, and
rods could be purchased there.
Aspen tree (quaking)
Appearance:
Evidence: Quaking aspen grows at the subalpine level in Whistler's
Pass.
Other notes: Quaking aspen gets its name because this particular species
of aspen has particularly thin, flat leaf stems, which shiver with even
the slightest breeze.
Asparagus
Appearance:
Evidence: Boiled asparagus may be purchased in the Tartifacts Bakery
of Icemule Trace.
Other notes:
Aster plant
Appearance: A golden flower.
Evidence: The Aesthetic Aster table in the Wayside Inn.

Icemule Trace; a banana tree may also be seen in the River's Rest Zoo.
Other notes:
Basal moss
Appearance:
Evidence: Basal moss is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When consumed, basal moss can repair minor bruising, cuts,
and scrapes to the eyes, chest, and abdominal area. It grows primarily
in temperate climates on the bark of deciduous trees. Before the
Ice Age passed, basal was known as berterin.
Bearberry (alpine)
Appearance:

Pass.
Other notes:
Bilberry (dwarf)
Appearance:
Evidence: Dwarf bilberry grows on the talus slopes of Whistler's Pass.
Other notes:
Birch tree
Appearance:
Evidence: Sunbleached birchwood floors may be purchased from Finiegan's
Flooring in River's Rest. Birch trees also grow in Whistler's Pass.
Other notes:
Blaestonberry
Appearance: "Deep blue shutters frame the structure's glaesine
windows, beneath which foamy cascades of blaestonberry mingle with deeply
fragrant creeping rosemary." (in Sylvarraend)
Evidence: Circlets of Blaeston blossoms are sold at the florist's in
Wehnimer's Landing, and blaeston growing wild may be seen in Sylvarraend
by the "Welcome to Sylvarraend" sign.
Other notes: I'm not totally sure whether or not blaestonberry
and Blaeston blossoms come from the same plant; I presume so, however,
until I find someone to tell me otherwise.
Bleeding Heart plant
Appearance: Tiny purple flowers on short stems.
Evidence: The Bleeding Heart table of the Wayside Inn.
Other notes:
Bluebell plant (greenleaf)
Appearance:

color almost light enough to be pink. (The parchment in the gardener's
shack in Hearthstone)
Evidence: Calamia fruit is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When consumed, calamia fruit can restore a mangled
limb to its proper shape and form. The properties of calamia are
greatest when the fruit has been dried, but few bother to do so, seeing
as the fruit is amazingly effective even fresh. Calamia grows in
very warm, moist climates. Before the Ice Age passed, calamia was
known as curfalaka.
Canver tree
Appearance: "Supple canver trees bend inward, their crowns twining
together in a lush green arch over the street. Clumps of flowers
gaze cheerfully down from among the branches, smiling brightly as you walk
by." (Silver and Sapphire, Kharam-Dzu)
Evidence: Canver trees may be seen on Teras Isle in the city of Kharam-Dzu.
Other notes:
Carrot plant (common)
Appearance:
Evidence: Carrot raisin cupcakes can be purchased in the Stone Eye
in River's Rest.
Other notes:

Evidence: Cinquefoil shrubs line the path through part of Whistler's
Pass.

is absolutely covered in dandelions.
Other notes:

Wehnimer's Landing and Ta'Illistim.
Other notes:
Ephlox moss
Appearance:
Evidence: Ephlox moss is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: While the herbalist's parchment seems to be rather
confused over whether ephlox is a plant or a fungus, I am fairly sure that
it is a plant. Ephlox has the useful property of stilling blood flowing
from open wounds upon the limbs and repairing the broken bones within.
Ephlox grows best in a cold, wet enviroment with ample sunlight, and tends
to grow on tree trunks or beside streams. Before the Ice Age passed,
ephlox was known as edram.
Fel tree
Appearance: A black hardwood, similar to ebony (Bin Saladin's
catalogue)
Evidence: Before Bin Saladin's shop closed, fel wands, amulets, and
rods could be purchased there.

At the apex of your swing you release the rope. You hang in the air
for a long moment, then plunge into the creek with a tremendous SPLASH!"

Appearance: Tangled vines with bright green leaves and brilliant yellow
blossoms.
Evidence: Honeysuckle vines grow over a hidden door in Hearthstone.
Other notes:
Holly bush
Appearance: "Here and there, in places where the light is particularly
good, holly bushes have taken root. Their jagged, sharp leaves protect
an abundance of small, red berries." (Zhindel's Plateau)

the scent of linden blossoms in full bloom ripe in the air. Birds
chirp merrily from deep within the tree, obscured by it's thick foliage."
Evidence: On the way to Moonstone Abbey, a number of graceful linden
trees may be seen. A linden tree also grows in River's Rest near
the trail to the herbalist's.

of Icemule Trace.
Other notes:
Maple tree
Appearance: "A few sugar maples have changed color, perhaps stressed
by lack of good soil or competition for nutrients from other nearby trees.
The green leaves have slipped into shades of flaming red, deep orange and
bright yellow, making the trees appear as billowing cones of flame against
the deep green backdrop of the rest of the forest. A few scattered
leaves lie under the trees, their colors fading to a murky brown."
(from a point along the Locksmehr River trail)
Evidence: In the Northeast Room of Mistral Hall, there is a three-tiered
table. The top tier supports one low, oblong planter containing a
young maple tree.
Marillis plant
Appearance:
Evidence: While I have not personally encountered marillis berry, a
list in the Hearthstone herbalist's that I have found otherwise accurate
(save a few slips into and out of Ice Age terminology) cites the herb's
existence.
Other notes: The berries of the marillis plant have properties similar
to acantha, cothinir, and cuctucae. Marillis grows most commonly
in colder hills and mountains. Before the Ice Age passed, marillis
was known as mirenna.
Modwir tree
Appearance: A coastal pine, which grows tall and straight (Bin

by the squirrels who routinely knock acorns from its branches.
Oats
Appearance:
Evidence: Oatmeal raisin cookies can be obtained on the deck of Mistral
Hall in River's Rest.
Olive tree
Appearance: "Olive trees, their trunks gnarled like the calloused hands
of old crones, grow ragged and wild on either side of the path. A
soft breeze rustling through the grey-green leaves carries the faint and
distant sound of birdsong."
Evidence: Olive trees grow along a shady trail in River's Rest that
leads to the Warrior's Guild.
Orchid plant
Appearance:
Evidence: Orchids are sold at the florist's in Wehnimer's Landing.

Pass.
Other notes:
Pothinir grass
Appearance:
Evidence: Pothinir grass is routinely sold for its medicinal
properties, and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: Pothinir grass, when consumed, will staunch bleeding and
rapidly heal severe injuries to the eyes, stomach, and chest; however,
while few healing herbs taste good, pothinir is particularly noted for
its vile flavor. Pothinir grass is difficult to find, but the search
is often considered worth the benefit. Pothinir grass grows in hot,
humid areas that get plenty of sunlight. Before the Ice Age passed,
pothinir was known as pasamar.
Primrose plant (fairy)
Appearance: "Small delicate petals of lilac and pink tower above the
deep green, hairy leaves." (from a room in Whistler's Pass)

Queen's Lace: See wild carrot.
Raspberry bush
Appearance: "A large patch of wild raspberries stands just off the
west side of the trail. The plants cascade all over, and a wealth
of berries are clustered on the extensive bushes. Two things keep
travelers from enjoying the succulent fruit. First, the plants also
sport sharp thorns that happily puncture and tear any flesh that tries
to slide past them. Second, all the berries don't seem to be quite
ripe enough, and where ripe ones might have been there are none.
There are bear tracks here." (from the Locksmehr River trail on the
way to Ta'Illistim)
Evidence: Raspberry tarts may be purchased in the Tartifacts Bakery
of Icemule Trace.
Other notes:
Rosebush
Appearance: "Several dark red rosebushes grow around the bases of the
trees, their tenacious arms winding around the trunks, cascading garnet-hued
blooms overhead in drifting masses." (partway to Sylvarrend)
Evidence: Roses may be purchased in many florist's shops around Elanthia,
and there is a garden in Hearthstone devoted primarily to their beauty.
They may also be foraged in the wild.

much in demand by young lovers to give to their sweethearts.
Rosemary
Appearance:
Evidence: Rosemary grows outside the clothiers' shop in Sylvarraend.
Other notes: A decent spice, as well as fragrant and pretty.

tree with a hard reddish or dark wood with a strongly defined grain.
Evidence: A rosewood door leads into the Rose Room upstairs in Hearthstone.
Other notes:
Rye grass
Appearance:
Evidence: The Gladberry Farms Winery (in the Port Valley neighborhood

Appearance:
Evidence: Snowberry tarts may be purchased in the Tartifacts Bakery
of Icemule Trace, and wild snowberry bushes may be seen in Whistler's Pass.
Other notes:
Sovyn bush
Appearance:
Evidence: Sovyn clove is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: The cloves of which people speak are actually the small,
dried flowers of the sovyn bush; without time to dry in the sun, their
healing powers are lost. Sovyn clove, when consumed, may miraculously
restore an entire missing limb to a person, so long as the limb has not
been recently severed. Before the Ice Age passed, sovyn was known
as siran.
Spearmint plant
Appearance:
Evidence: Spearmint may be foraged in several places in the vicinity
of Wehnimer's Landing.

Appearance:
Evidence: A huge blue spruce grows on Zhindel's Plateau, forcing the
trail to bend.
Other notes:
Strawberry plant
Appearance:
Evidence: Strawberry tarts may be purchased in the Tartifacts Bakery
of Icemule Trace. Strawberries also grow in part of the Port Valley
neighborhood near River's Rest.
Other notes:
Strigae cactus
Appearance:
Evidence: While I have not personally encountered strigae cactus, a
list in the Hearthstone herbalist's that I have found otherwise accurate
(save a few slips into and out of Ice Age terminology) cites the herb's
existence.
Other notes: The flesh of the strigae cactus possesses properties akin
to the properties of cuctucae berries, but the spines are sufficiently
sharp that acquiring the flesh may do as much harm as the herb can heal.
The cactus supposedly grows abundantly in desert areas, though, again,
I have not located it personally. Before the Ice Age passed, strigae
was known as gariig.
Tanik tree
Appearance: Blue conifer from the Great Forest, used for making paper
(Bin Saladin's catalogue)
Evidence: Before Bin Saladin's shop closed, tanik wands, amulets, and

and rods could be purchased there.
Other notes: Before the Ice Age passed, thanot was known as thokot.
Toadstool (giant glowing)
Appearance: Gigantic toadstools sprout nearly ten feet straight up
out of large stone pots filled with humus. Each toadstool gives off
a luminescent light to illuminate the area surrounding it. Light
projected from the cap's bottom is white, while light from the top is a
mottled crimson due to the darker and lighter spots on the cap's surface.
Evidence: These toadstools grow in the dwarven town of Zul Logoth.
Other notes: A white and silver variety exists and may be seen elsewhere
in the town as well as the crimson and silver variety.
Tomato vine
Appearance:
Evidence: Tomato plants grow in Wixie's Backyard in Frostacres.
Torban tree
Appearance:
Evidence: Torban leaf is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When consumed, the leaves of the Torban tree can treat
minor nervous system defects, such as slurred speech. Growing in
mild climates, the tree is not difficult to find, but care must be exercised
in selecting the leaves in the proper stage of growth, or they will be
useless save for tea-making. Before the Ice Age passed, torban was

Violets (flaming)
Appearance: "Miniature flaming violets grow from the arch overhead.
Oddly, the flames don't seem to consume the violets or the arch itself.
The air, however, is very hot and the myriad charred avian bones show what
happened to the few birds who got too close to the burning violets."
Evidence: These odd violets grow in River's Rest on the arch
above the Citadel Walkway.
Other notes: Presumably, these are not natural plants, but magically
modified.

Evidence: Wolifrew lichen is routinely sold for its medicinal
properties, and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When consumed, wolifrew lichen can repair minor damage
to the nervous system, such as that spellcasters sustain when pushing gently

Evidence: Woth flower is routinely sold for its medicinal properties,
and may also be foraged wild.
Other notes: When consumed, woth flower can heal serious defects of
the nervous system, such as involuntary spasms or constant convulsions.
Woth flower grows best in hot, humid, dark climates, and it is believed
to be native to rain forests. Before the Ice Age passed, woth was
known as yuth.
