It is foolish to live in the past.
If you are to make progress, you must search your hearts deeply, and find out all the unrighteous acts, unrighteous attitudes.
Today you have the Internet, and TV and even cable TV, you have plenty of opportunities to know what are considered right/wrong by people of the world.
I am a Chinese, and we Chinese have long been nurtured by the teachings of Confucius. Perhaps you might read Analects of Confucius and get a feeling of the culture of Chinese.
For the non-Chinese, they are mostly nurtured by the Bible. The teachings of LORD, of Jesus ([1],[2]) form the foundation of their culture.
You may still harbour hate, resentment against the Christian countries, for they were the countries that "invaded" your land and plundered/killed your people. But not ALL people in Christian countries are Christians. Only those who hold fast the teachings of LORD and Jesus are Christians. Jesus was a duplicate of LORD, created by LORD and sent down to Earth. In a sense, it was GOD condescending to Earth in human form.
LORD, or GOD, is The Great Spirit spoken of by your people.
A large part of the world are Muslims. But I think it is not worthwhile to study the Quran, because Quran was the work of a human, Mohammed, not the work of Almighty GOD, even though it claims that Mohammed was writing for GOD. There are many errors in Quran! e.g. cut off the hand of a thief! (which contradicts Moses' teaching : thief repays double to victim.) The backwardness of the Muslim countries testifies that Quran is not the writing of GOD.
Another large part of the world are Buddhists. You can get a quick understanding of their beliefs by reading the book "Freedom from Fear", by Aung San Suu Kyi, a Burmese.
I firmly believe that the Book of Mormon (abbreviated BOM) is a true history of your race, for the period 600 B.C. to 420 A.D. The Maya people were brothers of yours, and they were called Nephites in the BOM, whereas your people were called Lamanites. Both Nephi and Laman were sons of Lehi, and Lehi lived in Jerusalem. Lehi and his family left Jerusalem in the year 600 B.C. and traveled along the Red Sea in the Arabia Peninsula. They were in the Arabia Peninsula eight years before sailing to America. Their initial settlement were in Yucatan Peninsula, Honduras, Guatemala, Nicaragua, ... You may find all these in the Book of Mormon.
Enos, who was a Nephite, and who cared deeply about you, wrote of you in BOM,

Enos : "And I bear record that the people of Nephi did seek diligently to restore the Lamanites unto the true faith in God. But our labors were vain; their hatred was fixed, and they were led by their evil nature that they became wild, and ferocious, and a bloodthirsty people, full of idolatry and filthiness; feeding upon beasts of prey; dwelling in tents, and wandering about in the wilderness with a short skin girdle about their loins and their heads shaven; and their skill was in the bow, and in the cimeter, and the ax. And many of them did eat nothing save it was raw meat; and they were continually seeking to destroy us." |
and I think he wrote rightly. Even such traits may be found in many of you today. Therefore search your heart, correct yourselves, and do what is right in the sight of GOD.
I live in Hong Kong, and Hong Kong is a small place, 410 square miles
You have plenty of land. Your reservations contain much more land than Hong Kong, and even much more land than many countries around the world! You can easily earn yourselves a living. Cultivation, animal husbandry, tourist industries, ... could easily make you self-sufficient (but never casinos and gambling).
Go over to Japan, to China, to Israel, ... and see what they do. The Israelites have achieved a lot. They have turned many parts of desert into cultivation, using drip-irrigation, and they can even export many agricultural products, e.g. oranges!
Humble yourselves, and learn from the best around the World.
Your agriculture etc. may not compete with the best of the world, but why should you compete with them ? As long as it produces enough for you, you should be contented. Why compete with others in riches?
If you truly admit your wrong attitudes, and return to LORD, and humble yourselves, and work your own livelihood (except Casinos and gambling), LORD will guide you step by step to a better future.
On the other hand, if you continue in your hardness of heart, and vain pride, and stubbornness, you will remain, and suffer, in your backward state for a long long time to come.

What befell you when the Western Countries "invaded" America was from LORD. LORD did it to you through the hands of foreigners. Because the rule of LORD is simple,
And your attitudes were not right before LORD.
