Once you truly believe that Jesus was sent by GOD, and repent of your sin, and want to live a new life, GOD will give you a new heart, that is to say, GOD will give you His spirit, the HOLY SPIRIT.
This HOLY SPIRIT usually will be given to you when you get baptized, which signify your resolve to follow GOD and Jesus.
The old spirit we have is from Adam, who was beguiled by Satan to disobey GOD's commandments, and acquired the knowledge of Good and Evil.
This old spirit always consider things in the light of "Is it good to us ? or evil to us ?", and never in the light of "Is it lawful and right in the sight of GOD ? or wrong in the sight of GOD ?".
It is GOD's will that we do what is lawful and right in the sight of GOD even at the peril of death, much like Jesus did. Jesus should be our model. Because there is resurrection, there is Hell and Paradise. Therefore we should not fear death. Jesus can endure the pain of the cross, we can too.
Having the HOLY SPIRIT does not mean you can bear "fruit" instantly.
The Holy Spirit given to you is a seed only. But without a seed, you can never have a full grown tree, nor have fruit pleasing to GOD.
Bad seed gives bad tree and bad fruit; good seed gives good tree and good fruit.
The old spirit inside us, was from Adam. That is a bad seed, and can only bear evil fruit, much to the dismay of GOD.
Having a new seed gives us hope of a new tree and new fruit pleasing to GOD.
But how to make the seed grow into a tree and to bear fruit ? The answer is in Jesus' teachings,
Jesus : "Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled with the HOLY SPIRIT." [Mt 5:6] |
Therefore, whenever you see someone doing righteousness, learn it. Also read the Bible to learn the teachings of GOD, of Jesus. This is the way to make the seed grow.
Brother Paul also advised us,
Paul : "Finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is gracious, if there is any excellence, if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things."

If you do so, then one day, you will bear good fruit pleasing to GOD.
Listen to GOD's warning, if you do not learn nor walk the teachings of GOD and of Jesus,
Jesus : "For to him who has will more be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who has not, even what he has will be taken away."

You must walk the teachings of GOD to be in the love of GOD, just as Jesus walked the teachings of GOD and was in the love of GOD. You must walk the teachings of Jesus to be in the love of Jesus.
Jesus : "If you keep my commandments, you will abide in my love, just as I have kept my Father's commandments and abide in his love."

Jesus : "If a man loves me, he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we will come to him and make our home with him." |
Many people think that if they ask Jesus to live in their hearts, then Jesus will live in their hearts.
No, at best what you get is only a seed.
You must walk the teachings of Jesus to have Jesus live in your heart. If you do not walk the teachings of Jesus, of GOD, they will not live in your heart, because they will not live in unholy "temple" -- your filthy body.
You learn and walk the teachings of GOD, of Jeus, then the HOLY SPIRIT will reside in you and grow to be a tree that bears fruit.
Finally, hear this solemn warning,

If you do not learn and walk GOD and Jesus' teachings, nor "hunger and thirst after righteousness" to make your seed grow into a tree, but just say, "Jesus, please live in my heart", and then obey a spirit in your heart in all your actions, without active consideration on your part whether that action is lawful and right in the sight of GOD, then you will be deceived, and Satan or evil spirits will enter you to deceive you till you enter hell. |
