SOCIAL WELFARE

  1. Many countries are excessively burdened by welfare budgets, moreover many people would cheat the government for welfare benefits? Do you think there is an alternate policy?

  2. Do you know of the tax-rate in many welfare countries? Do you think such tax-rate is fair to the hard-working entrepreneurs?

LORD: "When you reap the harvest of your land, you shall not reap your field to its very border, neither shall you gather the gleanings after your harvest. And you shall not strip your vineyard bare, neither shall you gather the fallen grapes of your vineyard; you shall leave them for the poor and for the sojourner.." (Lev 19:9-10)

LORD: "And if your brother becomes poor, and cannot maintain himself with you, you shall maintain him; as a stranger and a sojourner he shall live with you. Take no interest from him or increase, but fear your God; that your brother may live beside you. You shall not lend him your money at interest, nor give him your food for profit." (Lev 25:35-37)

LORD: "If you see the ass of one who hates you lying under its burden, you shall refrain from leaving him with it, you shall help him to lift it up." (Ex 23:5)

(NOTE: Nowadays, few people are farmers, but we may put aside part of our income yearly, to give them to the poor and needy; this serves the same as 'leaving the border of our field for the poor'.

Helping one another, keeping sheep for our neighbor when he is absent, lending things to our neighbor (Ex 22:10-14) are what we should do.

Welfare is done among neighbours, voluntarily and privately. Moreover, in a society, there are sure some people who are keen on doing work for others, and they may be assigned the title 'servant of 10 households'. They are non-paid voluntary workers. Such 'servants of 10' may be served by 'servants of 100', 'servants of 1000' ... 'Chief servant'. They are paid from donations (Ex. 18, Eze.45). Thus the levites/priests cater for the spiritual aspect of the people, and servants/chief-servant cater for the material well-being of the people. )
