John Ellis and Serena B. unknown had the following family:

2 i. Mary Emmalene² Ellis was born in Iowa 28 December 1855. Mary died 30 December 1935 in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at 80 years of age. She married Isaac Elmore Sherwood in Fulton County, Illinois, 2 March 1893. Isaac was born in Cuba, Fulton County, Illinois 26 September 1870. Isaac was the son of Joseph William Sherwood and Rosannah Anne Nickerson. Isaac died 22 January 1954 in Canton, Fulton County, Illinois, at 83 years of age. 3 ii. Ellen Ellis was born in Illinois about 1858. She married John Baughman in Fulton County, Illinois, 18 September 1880.

4 iii. Thomas O. Ellis was born in Illinois about 1861.

5 iv. Eliza J. Ellis was born in Illinois about 1866.
