9. Major² Childers (Joseph¹) was born in Amherst County, Virginia 9 February 1774. Major died 27 April 1845 in Clark County, Missouri, at 71 years of age.

He married twice. He married Hannah Ballew in Amherst County, Virginia, about 1795. Hannah was born in Virginia 16 November 1778. Hannah was the daughter of Stuart Ballew and Unknown. Hannah died 18 April 1812 in Kentucky, at 33 years of age. He married Nancy Ann Williams in Pendleton County, Kentucky, 8 July 1815. Nancy was the daughter of Bennett Williams and Unknown.

Major Childers and Hannah Ballew had the following family:

24 i. Nancy³ Childers was born 6 November 1796. She married Andrew Anderson.

+ 25 ii. Joseph Henry Childers was born 27 December 1798.

26 iii. John A. Childers was born in Garrard County, Kentucky 31 July 1801. He married Priscilla unknown.

27 iv. Joanah Childers was born in Garrard County, Kentucky 17 March 1804.

28 v. Major Childers was born in Garrard County, Kentucky 31 May 1806.

29 vi. Elizabeth Childers was born in Pendleton County, Kentucky 27 April 1809. She married Franklin Humphrey.
