CHILDERS Family

First Generation

1. Joseph1 Childers Sr. was born in Amherst County, Virginia about 1743. Joseph died about 1809 in Kanawha County, West Virginia. Kanawha County, West Virginia was part of Virginia at the time of his death.

He married Mary Farris about 1763. Mary was the daughter of Robert Farris. Mary died 9 May 1829 in Dry Ridge, Grant County, Kentucky. "Contract by John Napper of Augusta, with Joseph Childers of Amherst to convey to Childers his right to a certain tract or parcel of land lying on the Great Kanawa, 9 miles below the falls in County of Botetourt, 14th August, 1776." - from "Chronicles Of The Scotch-Irish Settlement In Virginia Extracted From The Original Court Records Of Augusta County 1745-1800 Augusta County Court Recirds. Joseph Childers Sr. and Mary Farris had the following family:

child + 2 i. Reuben2 Childers was born about 1765.

child 3 ii. Elizabeth Childers was born in Virginia about 1765. Elizabeth died 1 November 1829 at 64 years of age. She married Captain Benjamin Sandidge in Amherst County, Virginia, 28 October 1783.(2) Benjamin was born in Loudoun County, Virginia about 1765. Benjamin was the son of John Sandidge and Keziah Gatewood. Benjamin died about 1829 in Amherst County, Virginia. (See Captain Benjamin Sandidge for the continuation of this line.)

child 4 iii. Jesse Childers was born in Virginia about 1767. He married Annis Sandidge in Amherst County, Virginia, 13 October 1792. Annis was the daughter of John Sandidge and Keziah Gatewood.

child + 5 iv. Joseph Childers Jr. was born about 1769.

child + 6 v. Shadrick Childers was born about 1770.

child 7 vi. Judith Childers was born in Virginia about 1771. She married Samuel Coleman. (See Samuel Coleman for the continuation of this line.)

child 8 vii. Nancy Anne Childers was born about 1773. She married James Coleman.

child + 9 viii. Major Childers was born 9 February 1774.
